Belief in the End

by David Caplan

The end pours hot blood into the hearts and wombs of newborn mothers,
waiting at the gate to see the ones who will bring peace to the pain.
Who will they be? Will they be you? Will they be me?
Worlds spin uncontrollably, randomly,
to the beat of their own imminent demise,
but all things must dieŠEnd.
And in the end...
will you say that you made the choice to live and love in the face of this most horrid prospect,
or will you say you just sat by
and watched the laughing hands of the clock tick-tick until the bell tolls the race is over?
The fact that becoming a loving being will change this,
will cease the end from coming is merely a whisper, maybe a fallacy,
but what is faith but belief in fallacy?
But it is the belief that counts and not that maybe it might be true.
Either way...
The end makes martyrs of us all. Yes.
